Naomi Sumner

Naomi began writing for the stage in 2013 and has been successful in local playwriting competitions. “High Force” was one of the winners of the inaugural First Break Writing Competition at Oldham Coliseum Theatre in 2013 and was given a rehearsed reading by professional actors as part of the First Break Festival. It then went on to be professionally produced at Hebden Bridge Arts Festival. In 2014, her one act play “Pass” was chosen to be performed at the Manchester 24:7 Theatre Festival and nominated for the Vicky Allen Award for best new play. Naomi was also shortlisted for the ITV Original Voices scheme offering BAME writers the opportunity to write for “Coronation Street.”

An experienced arts facilitator, Naomi has taught a beginners playwriting group at The Lawrence Batley Theatre and led creative writing workshops for young people. She was a judge for the Write For The Stage award for Best New Writing in the 2015 Greater Manchester Fringe Festival. Naomi has been awarded Arts Council funding to produce her first full length play “One Flesh” which will tour in Feb/ March 2016.
