Commonword seeks Poet in Residence to Reimagine a Green Future

Amidst the climate crisis, many people feel alienated and disengaged from eco politics; Commonword believes that creativity can be a bridge for people to reconnect with nature. We are commissioning a new Green Poet in Residence for a flexible residency at Bridge 5 Mill, Ancoats, Manchester.

Commonword’s base at Bridge 5 Mill sits alongside one of the canals that runs through Manchester, with speckles of wildlife creeping into the city. We hope that this space will serve as a jumping off point for the chosen writer in residence to consider tangible links to nature within urban life, without forgetting to reach across the globe.

The green writer in residence will generate a minimum of four new poems, reimagining a green future and considering how the natural world is tethered to us all. Experience with performance poetry is a plus, as we anticipate the writer performing at Commonword’s Future Visions festival on September 17th.

Fee: £500

To Apply:

Interested poets should submit a portfolio of their work (up to 3 pages), along with a brief proposal outlining their approach to the project  to ella@cultureword.org.uk by Thursday 22nd August 2024, 5pm. Applicants will be notified by August 28th.

We are prioritizing applications from Global Majority writers but will ultimately choose the poet in residence based on the quality of their work.
