Hua started attending  Commonword’s woman’s write workshops regularly in 2007. About two years later, she also became a regular member of the Wednesday night Identity group. She says that her writing style was developed at school in China by a Chinese literature teacher.  Hua undertook undergraduate and postgraduate studies in China and UK and has settled in Manchester.  She says her writing certainly benefited greatly from the constructive feedback given by Commonword staff and members of the afore-mentioned two groups. Since 2007, she’s  written over 50 short stories, more than 200 poems and the rough draft of a novel. Her  poems have been published in the Best of Manchester Poets, Volume 1 and 3 and Commonword’s Food Anthology. Her short story Settled for Love was published in Commonword’s Migration stories.

The constructive feedback (by Commonword staff and members of its writing groups) and the host of information (on workshops, writing and publishing) etc. are vital for developing writers like me.”
