Yasmin Babiker was born in Saudi Arabia to Sudanese parents.  She moved to England at the age of six and has spent time in both Yorkshire and Cumbria. She moved to Khartoum to study medicine and to learn more about the culture and traditions of the country. She survived the experience and is now a practicing doctor in Manchester. Yasmin writes poetry as a release from her rigid scientific background, often finding inspiration in the daily predicaments she faces as a young Black Muslim female and is especially interested in the fluid concepts of identity and belonging.
