Description: One of our longest-running writers’ workshops, Identity is a group where people from Global Majority communities (ie, African, Caribbean, Southeast, South, East Asian, Middle Eastern Diaspora communities, as well as Indigenous communities) can share creative writing, discuss literature and learn about opportunities and events. Identity has long played a key role in nurturing black and Asian writers based in Manchester and in the north of England with a particular focus on spoken word poetry and short fiction, as well as long fiction, creative memoir and creative nonfiction.
The group is facilitated by Commonword’s Ella Otomewo, Amna Bagadi and Radhaika Kapur
Each month we have:
1. 3 Critique sessions. These are for those who are committed to improving their work and to bringing revised pieces to the workshop after receiving initial feedback. There is a signup method for joining critique sessions.
2. A specialist novelist group. To join, please send a sample of your prose.
